The recording at the center of this item is a funeral song. This is a funeral song of Chief Maybek, chief of Nyibodo (1940-1950). It was composed by Ajango Dilathjok from Ayijdhajo Village. Ajango was an in-law; his sister was married in Nyibodo. He used to greet people in Nyibodo when he goes to Tonga Town and when he goes back to Ayijdhajo. So, he was familiar with the event in Nyibodo. The chief of Nyibodo is in-charge of hippo. Hippo meat is always available in Nyibodo. In-laws have a share when hippo is killed by hunters or killed by another hippo. They lick their hands as the composer puts it.
