This research emphasises the importance of using appropriate and relevant African languages in broadcast programs might benefit educators, the South African Broadcasting Commission (SABC), the Department of Education, and Setswana curriculum developers. This study employs Lev Vygotsky’s Socio-Cultural Theory to investigate the limitations faced by media (broadcasting), particularly radio and television, and teachers in teaching and learning Setswana in Grades 11 and 12. A qualitative research methodology was utilised in this study. The data collection tools included interviews and structured focus group discussions. Additionally, a broadcast of the "Sekhutlhwaneng sa Dithuto" program on Motsweding FM, an episode of the drama series The Queen on television, and a classroom observation were also employed. Audio recordings were used to capture all relevant information. Data analysis was conducted based on themes. Five Setswana Home Language teachers and 148 learners from three schools were selected to participate in the study.
