This collection is comprised of biographical data on 705 Tanzanian political and social elites of African or Arab descent who were mentioned at least once in WHO'S WHO IN EAST AFRICA in the period 1964-1968. Demographic variables provide information on age, sex, place of birth, region of origin, ethnicity, religion, education, occupation, social class status, military training, foreign travels, party membership, trade union membership, membership in women's organizations, political or party leadership positions held, and the number of professional, political, and social organizations with which the elites were affiliated. The data do not contain a weight variable. ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection: Created variable labels and/or value labels.; Created online analysis version with question text.; Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes..
