POMA: An Affordable Tangible User Interface For Children With ASD In Low-Resource Countries

This research investigates, designs, develops and evaluates a cost-effective technology-based intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in low-resource therapy settings. This intervention bridges physical toys with digital surfaces and is co-designed with both parents and practitioners. After developing the prototype, its usability and adaptability were evaluated with children with ASD and their special education teachers at therapy settings. The results of the evaluation showed that this intervention could be used to improve the social and academic skills of children with ASD. The practitioners too confirmed that they believe the intervention to be of therapeutic benefits for children with ASD.
