Présentation de la nouvelle composante géospatiale au sein de l’initiative TSARA

National audience Launched in 2022, TSARA is a research partnership initiative bringing together African and European research and higher education institutions (currently French partners: INRAE, CIRAD, IRD, AgroParisTech, Institut Agro, and CIHEAM). The initiative focuses on supporting transitions towards sustainable agri-food systems that contribute to food security while preserving natural resources and promoting One Health. TSARA serves both as a partnership and as a collaborative framework for sharing knowledge and best practices, and for the co-development of research, innovation, and training projects. The TSARA scientific community is organized into several Thematic Task Forces (TTFs) covering key agricultural domains, including agroecological transition, water, soils, agroforestry, One Health, livestock systems, labour and employment, nutrition, and, as a cross-cutting theme, digital agriculture. During the 4th TSARA General Assembly, held in Nairobi on 13–14 May 2026, the partners endorsed the creation of a geospatial component within the Digital Agriculture TTF.The term geospatial is used here in its broadest sense, encompassing remote sensing, geomatics, spatial modelling and simulation, text mining, and contributions from the social sciences and humanities, including geography and spatial economics. One of the first priorities of this new component will be to establish and consolidate the community and to initiate its first collaborative activities. The objective of the webinar is twofold. The first part will provide a brief introduction to TSARA, outline the potential role of geospatial sciences—including remote sensing—present the main partners that have already expressed interest (including icipe, which leads the Digital Earth Africa infrastructure), discuss possible forms of collaboration, and highlight available incentive mechanisms such as the annual INRAE call for expressions of interest (AMI). The second part will be dedicated to discussion with participants, addressing questions, identifying existing collaborations between teams from the INRAE Remote Sensing Network and TSARA African partners, and exploring initial ideas for future joint activities.TSARA website: initiative-tsara.org Lancée en 2022, TSARA est une initiative de recherche en partenariat entre organismes africains et européens (français à ce stade : INRAE, CIRAD, IRD, AgroParisTech, Institut Agro, CIHEAM) centré sur les transformations vers des systèmes agricoles et alimentaires durables contribuant à la sécurité alimentaire tout en préservant les ressources et la santé globale. TSARA constitue à la fois un partenariat et un cadre pour partager savoirs et pratiques, et co-construire des projets de recherche, d’innovation et de formation. Cette communauté scientifique est organisée en plusieurs Task Forces Thématiques (TFT) en lien avec l’agriculture (TAE, eau, sols, agroforesterie, One Health, élevage, travail/emploi, nutrition, et, en transversal, agriculture numérique). Lors de la 4ème AG TSARA qui s’est tenue à Nairobi les 13-14 mai 2026, les partenaires ont validé l’ajout d’une composante géospatiale au sein de la TFT agriculture numérique. Le terme géospatial est pris ici au sens très large et englobe la télédétection, la géomatique, la modélisation/simulation spatiale, la fouille de texte, les SHS (géographie, économie spatiale …). Une des 1ères activités va être de constituer cette communauté et de lancer les 1ères actions de collaboration.L’objectif du webinaire sera pour une 1ère partie de présenter rapidement TSARA, la place potentielle du géospatial, dont la télédétection, les principaux partenaires qui se sont déclarés intéressés (dont l’Icipe qui pilote l’infrastructure Digital Earth Africa), les types de collaboration envisageables, les soutiens incitatifs dont l’AMI annuel INRAE. Puis dans une 2ème partie, de répondre aux questions, de voir les collaborations déjà existantes entre des équipes du réseau télédétection INRAE et des partenaires africains TSARA, d’échanger sur des 1ères idées d’actions.Site web TSARA : initiative-tsara.org
