This presentation addresses the literature review from the study in identifying the critical role of venture capital and development finance in fostering sustainable development in South Africa, with a particular focus on youth unemployment. The study recognises the importance of balancing economic growth and sustainability, particularly in the context of South Africa's ongoing energy transformation. The presentation highlights how the research investigates the impact of venture capital on South Africa’s sustainable growth and employment, with an emphasis on the innovation sector. Employing a positivist epistemological and quantitative approach, the study utilises comprehensive datasets from The World Bank, Statistics South Africa, and the South African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association to name but a few. The methodology includes statistical and econometric analysis, focusing on time-series data and employing artificial neural networks from a theoretical tenant perspective to analyse complex relationships between venture capital, sustainable development, and economic growth. The presentation shows but a glimpse of the study's findings highlighting venture capital's significant influence on the success of sustainable development projects in South Africa and its effect on reducing youth unemployment. One of four revealing facts from the study reveals a long-term association between venture capital and sustainable development, mediated by intermediary variables. This interconnected influence is evident in the model's nodal relationship, suggesting a profound impact on sustainable development and youth employment. All four recommendations are addressed in the full publication which is at the submission stage for journal publication. The presentation highlights how the study underscores the critical role of venture capital in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. It establishes a significant correlation between venture capital investments and sustainable development, particularly in fostering youth employment and sector innovation. The research further recommends leveraging South African universities as innovation centres for sustainable ventures and calls for policymakers to foster venture capital for sustainable goals and startups. In conclusion, the presentation highlights how the study accentuates the multifaceted impact of venture capital as a key driver for innovation, job creation, and sustainable growth in South Africa. It suggests further exploration into localised South African ecosystems to deeply understand venture capital's localised impact on sustainable development.
