Psychometric properties and validity of the KERF-20-I among Burundian children and adults

The aim of the current study is to construct a Burundi version of the KERF-20-I (Thekkumthala et al. 2023), a screening instrument for maltreatment in childhood. The KERF-20-I is a short screening version of the scale “Belastende Kindheitserfahrungen” (KERF) by Isele et al. (2014), which is the German adaptation of the Maltreatment and Abuse Chronology of Exposure (MACE) Scale by Teicher and Parigger (2015). The KERF-20-I assesses emotional neglect, parental non-verbal emotional abuse, parental physical maltreatment, parental verbal abuse, peer emotional abuse, peer physical bullying, physical neglect, sexual abuse, witnessing interparental violence and witnessing violence towards siblings. A further aim of the study is to examine the validity of the KERF-20-I using convergent and prognostic validity measures.
