This scoping review aims to map and synthesise the existing global evidence on quality frameworks, standards, and practices for service delivery in prostate cancer imaging using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with specific attention to their relevance and applicability to the Ghanaian healthcare context. Prostate cancer remains a major public health challenge in Ghana, where late presentation and high mortality persist, and the effective use of multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) is constrained by limitations in infrastructure, workforce capacity, protocol standardisation, and quality assurance systems.
Using established scoping review methodology, this review will systematically identify and examine peer-reviewed literature, clinical guidelines, technical reports, and grey literature that address quality in prostate MRI service delivery. The review will follow the Arksey and O’Malley framework, as refined by Levac et al. and Peters et al., and will be guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute Population–Concept–Context (PCC) framework. Reporting will adhere to PRISMA-ScR guidelines.
Sources will be identified through comprehensive searches of major biomedical databases and targeted institutional websites, without date restrictions, and limited to English-language publications. The review will focus on identifying core components of quality service delivery, including technical standards, imaging protocols, reporting systems, personnel training, governance structures, and implementation strategies, as well as contextual factors influencing their transferability to low- and middle-income settings.
The findings will provide an evidence-informed foundation for the development of a context-specific national quality framework for prostate MRI service delivery in Ghana, and will highlight gaps in current knowledge and practice relevant to sub-Saharan Africa.
