Rapid Gender Analysis: Floods and Landslide, Fako Division, South-West Cameroon, August 2026

This Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA) was produced by TGLF's Insights Unit on 25 August 2026. It is a secondary review of the IFRC DREF operational plan for Cameroon: floods in Fako (DREF operation no. MDRCM045), the March 2023 UNFPA Buea rapid assessment and safety audit for a comparable event in the same division, UNFPA national situation reporting, government and media damage assessments, a global hazard-monitoring platform, and peer-reviewed literature on gendered flood vulnerability and Cameroon's hazard profile. No primary data was collected: no affected woman, girl, man, boy or gender-diverse person was interviewed, and no Fako-based women-led organisation co-produced it. Three women died in the Limbe landslide of 5 August 2026, including a pregnant woman who lost her unborn child. The response operation has no obstetric referral pathway, no menstrual hygiene objective, and no child safeguarding policy. This document supplies an interim evidence base, drawing heavily on the closest comparable event, the March 2023 Buea flood and landslide 20 kilometres away, so that decisions taken in the following weeks are not taken blind.
