Reduplication Process of Hausa Spoken in Yola and Jimeta Adamawa State Nigeria

This research paper attempts a discussion on reduplication process of Hausa as spoken in Yola and Jimeta in Adamawa State. It documents, the Hausa speech forms as spoken by Hausa speakers in the respected areas of study. These papers also analyse Reduplication process as one of the word formation processes where part of the base or root is fully or partially repeated to create a new meaning or grammatical function. The objectives of the research is to identify the parts of speech that are involved in the reduplication process, the tone patterns of the reduplicant and the semantic changes of the reduplicant and the base together with their vowel harmony. In the same vein, to find out whether there is influence of the L1 to their Hausa reduplication speech forms. The paper further focuses on partial and complete reduplication of Hausa spoken speech forms within the research area. Through the study, it is established that nouns, verbs, adjectives, possessives undergo these processes in order to be fully or partially repeated. The paper employs unobtrusive observation, unstructured interview, questionnaire and library research as a method of data collection. A simple random sampling was used in the selection of the respondents from Yola town and Jimeta metropolis that represents area of the study. Matthews model of approach is adopted which deals with morphology and morphological processes. The theory is general and is not restricted to any particular language phylum.
