This metadata refers to the Land Cover Change vector data generated over Salonga (Africa) for 2016-2019 in the framework of the Copernicus Global Land Hot Spot Mapping (C-GL-HSM) contract under the coordination of JRC.
This area of interest is either mapped with the generic 8 classes dichotomus legend (CAF_07_lcc_a) or the detailed modular legend (CAF_07_lcc_b).
The mapped area of interest (AOI) represents a Key Landscape for Conservation area (KLC). The KLC has a total size of 6,5 million ha (65,000 km²) and is situated at the heart of the central basin of the Congo River in Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Salonga National Park (also UNESCO World heritage site) within the KLC has been established in 1984 and is divided into a northern and a southern sector of approximately equal size, separated by an unprotected space approximately 50 km wide.
