This dataset accompanies the article “Early-life Adversity and Long-term Outcomes: Evidence from the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus Outbreak in the Gold Coast” by Mohammed Iddrisu Kambala. It contains data and replication materials used to analyze the long-term effects of early-life exposure to the Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus Disease (CSSVD) epidemic in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) during the 1940s. The dataset combines historical archival information on cocoa-suitable areas and the CSSVD outbreak with individual-level data from the 1993 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (DHS). The accompanying Stata .do files reproduce all descriptive statistics, regressions, robustness checks, and figures reported in the paper. Derived spatial variables were constructed using DHS cluster coordinates intersected with cocoa-suitability polygons digitized from historical maps. The dataset excludes restricted DHS GPS coordinates in compliance with the DHS Program’s privacy policy.
