Abstract Data on mitochondrial pathologies emanating from Sub-Saharan Africa remain severely insufficient compared to Europe and other high-income regions. Any effort to canvass such data for the purpose of aiding future direction of investigations about primary mitochondrial diseases (PMDs) on the African individuals should be all-encompassing. Since African populations harbor the highest mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) diversity in the world, such an “all-encompassing” campaign must look beyond standard clinical criteria to address several critical variables and diagnostic disparities. Therefore, any effort made to build on data highlighted on the reviewed paper; link.springer.com ’ is just. The data used in the reviewed paper were between 1988 and 2023 alongside other inclusion and exclusion criteria.
