The study examined Reward management and employee performance of private owned primary
schools in Enugu State. Promotion and career development serves as objectives of the study;
two hypotheses were also included in the study. The study was anchored on Abraham Maslow
hierarchy of needs, which suits best for the study. The population of the study was 1933 of
private owned primary schools in Enugu State and 321 was used as sample of the study also
for the analysis and was determined by the fomular designed by krijice and morgan.
Descriptive research design was employed for the study. Sources of data collection was
questionnaire. Area of study was Enugu State in Nigeria. Reliability of test instrument was
ensured through test retest. Method of data analysis was obtained through statistical package
for social science (SPSS). Promotion has a significant positive effect on employee task
performance in selected private primary schools in Enugu State. (t= 0.614 with p-value of
0.000) Career development has a significant positive effect on employee adaptive performance
in selected private primary schools in Enugu State. (t-= 1.625 with p-Value of 0.001). The study
concluded that reward management has crucial roles to play in improving employee job
performance. It was recommended that the proprietors of private primary schools in Enugu
should put in place approved condition of service for staff members. Management of private
primary schools in Enugu should continuously recognize good performance and administer
the promotional opportunities in a fair and transparent manner which considers all employees.
