This dataset accompanies the manuscript: Quesada-Fernandez F., Martin-Maldonado B., Landman D., Andreu-Vázquez C., Hassim A., Van Heerden H., Esperón F. Anthropogenic influence on antimicrobial resistance in white rhinoceroses: integrating molecular and phenotypic evidence across a conservation management gradient. The dataset contains anonymized information from 54 white rhinoceroses (Ceratotherium simum) sampled in South Africa to investigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across different conservation management systems. Phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility was assessed using Escherichia coli isolated from fecal samples, while antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) were detected directly from the fecal resistome by quantitative PCR. To protect this threatened species, all information that could identify individual animals, conservation facilities, reserves, or sampling locations has been removed. Animal IDs are anonymized, and only the management category (Wild, Semi-extensive, Intensive) is provided. The dataset contains all variables required to reproduce the statistical analyses reported in the associated manuscript.  Rhinos_Dataset.xlsx contains one worksheet with individual-level data for all sampled rhinoceroses. Each row corresponds to one individual. Variable Description ID Anonymous individual identifier Age Age category (Adult or Orphan/Juvenile) Status Management status (Free-ranging / Human-managed) Management Conservation management gradient (Wild, Semi-extensive, Intensive) Water Main water source Food supplementation Food supplementation (Yes/No) Probiotics administration Probiotic administration (Yes/No) Antibiotics Administration Recent antimicrobial treatment (Yes/No) E. coli isolation Successful isolation of E. coli (Yes/No)
