ROLE OF BLOCKCHAIN IN ENHANCING TRANSPARENCY IN RWANDA'S CONSTRUCTION SUPPLY CHAINS

This study explores the role of blockchain technology in enhancing transparency within Rwanda’s construction supply chains. Using a qualitative research design, the methodology combined document analysis, stakeholder interviews, and case studies from countries like Singapore and the United States to draw comparative insights. Findings reveal significant transparency challenges in Rwanda, such as increasing corruption cases (from 25 in 2010 to 45 in 2014) and escalating costs associated with supply chain inefficiencies, reaching $20 million in 2014. Statistical analysis demonstrated blockchain’s potential to reduce project delays by 25% (t = 7.2, p < 0.001) and improve stakeholder trust (75% support from government agencies). Conclusions underscore blockchain’s capacity to enhance accountability, minimize fraud, and streamline processes through immutable records and smart contracts. Recommendations include policy formulation, stakeholder training, pilot testing, infrastructure investment, and public awareness campaigns to facilitate blockchain adoption.Keywords: blockchain, transparency, supply chains, construction, Rwanda
