The adoption of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) in 2016 increased governments’ expectations of the contribution of research towards the attainment of these SDG goals. Governments and other stakeholders must be provided with better ways of understanding research output progress in line with the attainment of SDG goals. As such, this poster presentation illuminates ongoing research aimed at demonstrating research relevance and progress made so far by selected South African (SA) universities with publicly listed and available Open repositories. This research applies the AUORA SDG classification Model to map research available from selected Open repositories and gauge how the extent to which the research is aligned with the 17 SDGs. This study aims to establish the contribution of research available from SA Open Repositories to the attainment of UNSDGs within the period 2018-2022. The poster will visualize classified annual research outputs from Open repositories and how these link to UNSDGs.
