This dataset was collected as part of the Sanitation and climate: assessing resilience and emissions (SCARE) Project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Empirical data measurements of greenhouse gas emissions from onsite sanitation systems were collected in Ethiopia, Nepal, Senegal, and Uganda, across 2024. A static flux chamber method was used, utilizing land field gas analysers to monitor carbon dioxide and methane in situ. The emission rates presented in this workbook have been generated by using Equation 1. Raw data is not presented in this document.
Ecap = ((m*1440*103*VFC*Acon.)/AFC)*N
EQUATION 1: Where Ecap is the emission rate per capita (g/cap/day), m is the gradient of the linear regression, 1440 is minutes in a day (min/ day), VFC is the volume of the FC (m3), Acon. is the surface area of the containment (m2), AFC is the surface area of the FC (m2), and N is the number of people in the household.
