School Feeding Program and its Contribution to achieve Education objectives: Sitti Zone in Shinile Woreda of Somali Region

School Feeding Program (SFP) is one of the components of education sector development program (ESDPIV) and School health and nutrition strategy that is implemented by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Ministry of Health. This research aimed to assessing the contribution of School feeding program on quality education in the case of Siti Zone in Shinile Woreda to address the objective, the study employed mixed research approach and adopted descriptive research Design. Data were collected from five primary schools in Shinile district. It involved a sample of 78 respondents including 7 District Education Officer (DEO), Five School Principals, 32 teachers, 2 Regional education Bureau management/ experts, 5 Cluster Supervisors, 25 PTA and 2 International NGO workers for School Feeding Program. Participants were selected through stratified random sampling, simple random sampling and purposive sampling. Data collection methods were document reviews, questionnaires and interviews. The study findings showed that school feeding program has increased Students’ enrolment, attendance and academic performance. Few schools have been not stable in terms of pupils’ enrolment, attendance and academic performance due to parents’ negative attitudes towards education, lack of teaching and learning materials, long distance to and from schools, poverty of parents, shortage of teachers and pupils who were orphans. Recommendation for practice; Education policy developers and evaluators should due consideration to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the SFP programs in implementing Education Development Road Map of Ethiopia. Ministry of education or Shinile education office with the cooperation of nongovernmental organizations better to introduce school feeding programs to most children come to school from low income families or scale-up the implementation of the program to the needy students that help to advance academic achievement of students.
