SUNU “Sunu is the emblematic rhythm of the Kaarta region, located north-west of Bamako and up to the Mauritanian border. This ancient Bambara kingdom is populated by different ethnic groups: Bambara, Mandinka, Soninke, and Kakolo, who are the probable descendants of some of the oldest inhabitants of the Sahel. All these ethnic groups play and dance Sunu with their own variations. This is a very popular rhythm which is played in every circumstance.
