Abstract : This study explores the relationship between self-esteem and foreign language learning among learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). While existing research suggests that self-esteem plays a crucial role in academic achievement, its specific impact on language acquisition particularly in EFL contexts remains underexplored. If a student’s attitude towards himself is positive, self-esteem is described as high; if it is negative, self-esteem is considered low. In language learning, low self-esteem negatively affects the process, as students with low self-esteem do not take the necessary risks to acquire communicative ability. Students with high self-esteem are more open to learning and more successful in language learning. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study examines the relationship between self-esteem and language learning of 16 students learning English as a foreign language. Data was collected through self-report questionnaires. The results revealed that there are mixed attitudes toward expressing Francophone culture in the English language class. Also, self-esteem can be the catalyst that drives individuals to tackle linguistic challenges with unwavering determination.
