Messele Lipaato and Allayo Lanc'o first (file 001) play the children's song hawccin buy bookkanda ('let us dig out yam later'), Messele plays the shulshula-flute, Allayo sings the refrain (compare with session KK2011-12-18_001). File 002 is an instrumental interpretation of the wedding song beeri beero. File 003 is the wedding song ayendiko hay yeebe, file 004 the wedding song wodee ekkaz bazin bayye ('wodee, there isn't anything'), file 005 the wedding song sibaako siwaane. In file 003-005, Messele gives a brief introduction, then plays the flute, Allayo sings. File 006 to 009 contain three lyre songs played by Messele. File 006 is a song in the c'aaggo c'alti-rhythm, file 007 a song in the kaydaare-rhythm. file 008 a song in the boola ('grasshopper') rhythm; file 009 a narrative song about the dogad ('civet cat'). The photo linked to this session shows Messele listening to his recordings. Messele is a farmer from Awra Soosta and a passionate musician. He plays the lyre and the bamboo-flute (shulshula). He is the nephew of another lyre player, Lanc'o Lodo, who was recorded in the project. Messele is a father of small children. Allayo and Messele are cousin. Allayo accompanied Messele on the day of the recording. Yvonne Treis is a linguist and works on Ethiopian languages at CNRS in France.
