Sleman HDSS Data User Guide: Waves 1–9 (2015–2024)

The Sleman HDSS Data User Guide Waves 1–9 (2015–2024) provides a comprehensive reference for understanding and using data from the Sleman Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS), an ongoing population-based longitudinal study conducted in Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Established by the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with the Government of Sleman Regency, Sleman HDSS monitors demographic, social, economic and population health changes over time to support research, programme planning and evidence-informed policymaking.

Covering nine waves of data collection from 2015 to 2024, this guide describes the study design, sampling procedures, data collection and management processes, questionnaire structure, available variables, and principles for data analysis and use. It also documents changes in instruments, variables and field procedures across waves, providing essential context for cross-sectional, longitudinal, panel and cross-wave analyses.

Particular attention is given to commonly used derived variables, including socioeconomic status, quality of life, non-communicable diseases, nutritional status of children under five, mental health and causes of death.
