Social Media as a Strategic Tool for Public Relations Practice in Nigeria's National Library and National Archives

This study "“Social Media as a Strategic Tool for Public Relations Practice in Nigeria’s National Library and National Archives”. The survey research method was adopted. The empirical studies provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of social media in public relations practice in a library setting, which can inform the project topic's assessment of social media platforms. Theoretical framework used is technological Determinism. The population of this study is 3,725people comprising staffers of the National Library of Nigeria in Abuja, Jos plateau State, Enugu State, and Lagos, the National Archives of Nigeria in Abuja and Lagos. The sample size was drawn from the population and determined by Taro Yamane; the sample size used is 300. The questionnaire served as instrument of data collection; 300 copies of questionnaire were distributed to elicit responses from respondents. At the end of the study, the findings reveal that Social media tools such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram and e-library facility were used in the National Library and the National Archives of Nigeria; Social media package such as NSOCOP, Q&A on Facebook and news contents on Twitter were extensively used to reach out to both internal and external publics; Public relations unit of National Library and the National Archives used other social media facility such as SMS, e-mail, and e-library; Social media was highly effective in the public relations practice of the National Library and the National Archive of Nigeria; The study recommends that, the fundamental finding of this study was the discovery that the National Library and the National Archives of Nigeria exhaustively used social media tools such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram in her public relations' activities to engage both internal and external audiences and publicize organizations' activities in Nigeria.
