This article examines the role of social media in the development of digital startups in Sierra Leone. Based on a survey of 30 entrepreneurs and a review of recent academic publications, the main patterns of social platform usage, key barriers, and potential ways to overcome them are identified. It is shown that WhatsApp and Facebook dominate as communication and promotion tools, but high internet costs, a lack of skills, and low customer trust hinder growth. Supportive measures from the government and international organisations are proposed.
