This dataset supports the systematic review article "Socio-Political Governance and Innovation in Biomass-Derived Activated Carbon for Renewable Energy: A Systematic Review", which synthesises evidence from ten (10) studies examining how socio-political governance mechanisms and policy innovations influence the adoption and sustainability of biomass-derived activated carbon and biochar technologies for renewable energy applications. The review covers multiple governance and policy dimensions including regulatory frameworks (carbon pricing, renewable energy mandates, agricultural subsidies, emission trading systems), innovation drivers (digitalization, modular biorefinery design, value-added product development, multi-stakeholder approaches), socio-economic outcomes (rural employment, farmer income, community development), and institutional governance conditions across diverse regional contexts including Europe (Spain, Italy, Turkey), North America (United States, Canada), Africa (Morocco), and Asia (Thailand). The dataset includes Figure 1 (PRISMA 2020 Flow Diagram illustrating the study selection process from 1,418 initial records to 261 records after filtering and 10 included studies), Supplementary Document 1 (PRISMA 2020 Checklist with 27 items completed for the systematic review), Supplementary Document 2 (Risk of Bias Assessment Criteria detailing the quality appraisal framework adapted for diverse study designs spanning empirical, conceptual, review, and TEA/LCA studies), Supplementary Document 3 (Full Data Extraction Form containing standardised data from all ten included studies including author(s), year, country/region, study design, feedstock, conversion technology, governance/policy focus, key findings, and risk of bias assessment), and Supplementary Document 4 (Complete Search Strings and Retrieval Results from the Scopus database including Boolean operators, filters applied for year, document type, language, source type, and access type, and retrieval numbers by screening stage).
