Survey Data for "Archives, Algorithms, and Historical Authority: Rewriting the African Past in the Digital Age"

This deposit contains the de-identified analytical survey dataset and reproducible statistical materials supporting the article “Archives, Algorithms and Historical Authority: Digital Historical Practice in Sub-Saharan Africa through Evidence from Nigeria.” The study examined how historians and history students based in Nigeria use and evaluate archives, libraries, artificial intelligence, social media and other digital research resources. The online questionnaire received 250 submissions between 26 March and 24 June 2026. Two exact duplicate response records were excluded, leaving an analytical sample of 248 cases. Collection timestamps and an extraneous export field were removed, and respondents were assigned sequential, non-identifying identifiers. The deposit includes the analytical dataset in CSV and XLSX formats; a codebook in CSV and XLSX formats; the survey questionnaire; a human-readable results summary; a machine-readable results record; Python code for reproducing the ordinal-logistic-regression and exploratory clustering analyses; software requirements; licence information; a README; and file-integrity checksums. The analysis combines descriptive statistics with six exploratory proportional-odds ordinal-logit models. It also evaluates exploratory k-means solutions with two to six clusters. The statistical models are intended to identify structured within-sample associations and should not be interpreted as causal or nationally representative estimates. The interview materials used to contextualise the article are not included in this deposit.
