This poster presents a comprehensive techno-economic assessment of various bio-based energy production pathways across Sub-Saharan Africa, with a country-level focus on Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa. It evaluates multiple energy vectors — including hydrogen, ammonia, methane, ethanol, biodiesel, and sustainable aviation fuel — using diverse feedstocks such as agricultural residues, organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW), and used cooking oil.
The analysis integrates multiple production technologies (e.g., gasification, anaerobic digestion, fermentation, HEFA) with geospatially resolved feedstock availability, inter-regional transport distances, and export logistics. Economic outputs such as CAPEX, OPEX, transport costs, and net profit margins are calculated under a clean energy export scenario targeting Europe.
The study aims to inform stakeholders, policymakers, and investors about optimal technology-feedstock-location combinations that maximize economic viability while leveraging Africa's abundant biomass potential.
