This research paper aims to answer whether it is feasible to power a reverse osmosis plant using photovoltaic cells. The reverse osmosis plant is sized to satisfy the needs of the growing city of Tan-Tan in southern Morocco. The city currently has a 30% water deficiency and a predicted 60% deficiency by 2040. Reverse osmosis is very energy intensive and water desalination, in general, is especially costly for countries that do not produce fossil fuels, such as Morocco. Tan-Tan has a large availability of solar insolation, which is why photovoltaic power is proposed.
