This study examines the relationship between technological intensity and new product introduction among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Edo State, Nigeria. The research aims to understand how technology adoption and sophistication influence the innovation capabilities of SMEs in the region. The study addresses the challenges faced by SMEs in accessing, implementing, and utilizing innovative technologies. These challenges include limited resources, lack of technical expertise, and regulatory hurdles. The research questions explore the correlation between technological adoption and new product introduction, as well as the relationship between technological sophistication and new product introduction. The theoretical framework draws on the linear model of innovation, which posits a sequential relationship between scientific discovery, technological development, and market introduction. However, the study acknowledges the limitations of this model and considers the complex interplay between various factors influencing SME innovation. By investigating these relationships, the study contributes to a better understanding of the factors driving SME innovation in Nigeria and provides insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers. The findings can inform the development of targeted interventions to support SME innovation and enhance the competitiveness of the Nigerian economy.
