Technology as an enabler and Intervention of Violence Against Children

This presentation explores how technology can serve as both an enabler and an intervention tool in addressing violence against children, using evidence and case examples from Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. It highlights the dual role of digital platforms — as spaces that expose children to new risks such as online exploitation and abuse, and as powerful tools for prevention, reporting, and protection when properly utilized.
Drawing on data from the Directorate of Children Services (DCS) and USAID AMPATH Uzima, the presentation showcases practical applications of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in child protection, including the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS), Child Helpline 116, judicial e-filing and virtual court systems, and tech-driven campaigns that raise awareness and facilitate rapid response.
The work demonstrates how integrating ICT tools — such as Kobo Toolbox, WhatsApp-based networks, and social media — enhances case tracking, accountability, and coordination among service providers. It concludes that leveraging technology improves evidence generation, response timeliness, and workload efficiency in child protection interventions.
