The Burden, Risk Factors, and Interventions for Road Traffic Injuries in Kenya: A Rapid Scoping Review

Road traffic injuries (RTIs) are a significant public health concern in Kenya, contributing to high morbidity, mortality, and socioeconomic burdens. With increasing number of motor vehicles and motorcycles, urbanization, and inadequate road safety measures, RTIs remain a leading cause of death, particularly among young adults and vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and motorcyclists. Aim: To map existing evidence on the burden of RTIs in Kenya by examining documented morbidity and mortality data; to identify key risk factors contributing to RTIs within the Kenyan context; and to evaluate the range and effectiveness of interventions implemented to prevent, mitigate, or manage RTIs in the country.
