The impact of remote work on project management for information technology projects

Abstract Remote work has become a transformative force in the field of project management, particularly within the information technology (IT) sector. This study examines the impact of remote work on project management in IT companies in Somalia, focusing on the benefits, challenges, and adaptation strategies used by project managers. The research explores how remote work influences communication, collaboration, productivity, and overall project success. Using a mixed-methods approach, data was collected through surveys and interviews with IT professionals, project managers, and industry stakeholders. The findings indicate that remote work enhances work-life balance, provides access to a broader talent pool, and reduces operational costs. However, challenges such as communication barriers, lack of trust, reduced accountability, and cybersecurity concerns pose significant obstacles to effective remote project management. Additionally, the study highlights the need for strong leadership, advanced digital tools, and structured remote work policies to optimize project performance. The study underscores the importance of adopting best practices for remote project management, including improved virtual collaboration strategies, investment in secure IT infrastructure, and ongoing training for project teams. Recommendations include integrating flexible work models, enhancing cybersecurity measures, and fostering a culture of accountability and trust within remote teams. These findings provide valuable insights for IT companies, project managers, and policymakers seeking to optimize remote work strategies for successful project execution in Somalia.
