THE REVERSIVE IN WOLOF

Abstract : In this article, the reversive in verbal derivation is examined, and we have observed that it is a rather complex construction that gives it a very broad phonological and morphological scope. As a derivational form, the -i marker of the inertive entails various types of modifications. Therefore, we aimed to offer a new phonological and morphological framework that allows for the characterization of this construction which has often been neglected in the description of wolof. This analyse identifies morphological differences between inertive and base forms. We the adressed the consonantal and vowel variations and proposed rules to try to elucidate these phenomena.
