This systematic mapping study protocol outlines the methodology for investigating the current state of stroke research in Malawi. Stroke is a significant health concern globally, and while incidence is declining in high-income countries, it is increasing in low- and middle-income countries like Malawi. Despite its impact, there is a lack of comprehensive research on stroke in Malawi.Mapping studies entail systematic methods for consolidating existing literature within a specific field or topic area. They offer a comprehensive overview of available evidence, pinpoint research gaps, and provide insights to shape future research directions[3]. In the context of stroke research in Malawi, a mapping study is warranted to collate and analyze existing literature, assess the scope and quality of research conducted thus far, and identify areas requiring further investigation. This study aims to systematically map existing literature to identify gaps in knowledge, thematic trends, methodological approaches, and geographic distribution of research efforts. By addressing these gaps, the study aims to inform evidence-based decision-making, policy development, and future research directions to improve stroke prevention, treatment, and management in Malawi.
