FOUR supermarkets were selected to test an inter active system for giving point-of-purchase nutrition information. The system provided consumers with information to make better food choices. Approxi mately 14,000 people used the system during the test period. Sixteen per cent were African American, a higher proportion than reflected in the surrounding test communities. Thirty per cent of African Amer ican users used the system repeatedly. The system was viewed as easy, attractive, and more helpful than current forms of nutrition information. This in teractive system holds promise as an effective tool to provide information and promote healthy dietary be haviours in African Americans.
