National development in Africa continues to be constrained by insecurity and weakening traditional governance structures. This study examined the influence of traditional religious institutions and indigenous security mechanisms on national development in South-West Nigeria. A quantitative descriptive survey design was adopted, involving 600 respondents selected through a multistage sampling technique. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire (Cronbach's α = 0.81) and analysed with descriptive statistics and multiple regression at the 0.05 significance level. The findings revealed significant individual and combined effects of traditional religious institutions and indigenous security mechanisms on national development. Strengthening collaboration with formal governance can enhance sustainable development.
