Abstract
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education is rapidly transforming teaching and learning across the globe. In Nigeria, AI offers vast potential to revolutionize STEM education by addressing long-standing challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited access to quality teaching, and the widening skills gap between graduates and industry requirements. This paper explores the current trends, opportunities, and challenges in applying AI in STEM education in Nigeria. It examines how AI-driven tools and platforms such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning technologies, and data-driven assessment systems can enhance personalized learning, foster critical thinking, and bridge the skills mismatch. Furthermore, the paper discusses practical implications for curriculum development, teacher training, and policy formulation to ensure the effective integration of AI in STEM classrooms. The findings suggest that a strategic adoption of AI technologies, supported by robust policy frameworks and capacity building, can significantly improve STEM learning outcomes and prepare Nigerian students for the demands of the global digital economy.
