TRANSLOG FRONTIER ANALYSIS OF OKRA PRODUCTION IN SOUTHEAST NIGERIA

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) is one of the most important vegetable crops domesticated worldwide (FAO, 2021). The aim of the study was to analyse the profit function of okra production using normalize translog frontier. The study was guided by two objectives; which were to describe the socioeconomic characteristics of the okra farmers, and to estimate the profit function in okra production. A total of 234 okra farmers were sampled for the study. The study found that the prices of labour, seed and fertilizer showed a positive and significant effect on profit of okra farming in Southeast Nigeria. The study recommended that farmers should encourage the practice of knowledge- and experiencesharing among the farmers would benefit less experienced and more experienced farmers in order to improve their efficiency
