Undergraduates’ ICT Skills and Patterns of Use of E-Library Services for Academic Success: A Study of Delta State University Library, Nigeria

This study focused on undergraduates’ ICT skills and patterns of use of e-library services for academic success in Delta State University Library, Nigeria. It aimed to determine the level of ICT skills of the undergraduates; analyze the purposes for which undergraduates use e-library services and to determine the influence of demographic factors on the patterns of e-library use among undergraduates. This study employed a cross-sectional, descriptive-analytic survey design. The population of the study comprises 4,360 undergraduate students registered with Delta State University Library for the 2025/2026 academic session. Questionnaires were administered to the sampled 366 undergraduate students in the universities. And the analyzed data revealed that: undergraduate students have a high level of ICT skills; assignments and exam preparation are the main reason for use of the e-library; and demographically, it was found that mobile device usage, level of study, and discipline are the most important factors that influences undergraduate students pattern of e-library usage. It was concluded that the students’ high ICT skills level greatly influence their pattern of use of e-library services, and the purpose of using it. Gender wise, while the gender gap is not much level of students, discipline and the type of mobile device they use plays critical role in how they use e-libraries. It was therefore recommended that: universities should provide advanced ICT training for undergraduates, ensure integration of E-Library resources usage into the curriculum and iinvestments in student friendly facilities should be explored.
