Across universities, there is growing momentum to support innovation and entrepreneurship. However, too often, this support remains fragmented—delivered through isolated activities without the systems required to take founders from idea to execution. Through the implementation of Startup School Kenya, we have seen the importance of moving from programmes to structured venture development systems. Founders require more than inspiration. They require: clear pathways; practical tools and templates; consistent mentorship; and environments that enable them to build and test solutions. This Venture Support Toolkit has been developed from that experience. It is designed to support both founders and institutions in navigating the journey. Beyond guiding founders, this toolkit supports universities in building repeatable systems that can consistently nurture and advance student-led ventures. Our goal is to ensure that innovation efforts do not end at ideas, but translate into real solutions, real ventures and real impact. Startup School Kenya, a key implementation platform referenced in this work, is an initiative of the UK–Kenya Tech Hub and the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), implemented by Anza Village in collaboration with the Network of Entrepreneurial Institutions Leaders (NEIL).
