Abstract This study focused on determining the viability (technical, economic, and overall) of soybean seed production units in Benin. Data were collected from a random sample of 155 seed production units using the PIB (Participatory Indicator-Based) approach and then analyzed using descriptive statistics and an ordered probit model. Although the technical (75.2) and economic (47.10) viability scores are mixed, the results reveal that only 2 out of 5 soybean seed farms are overall viable. Finally, the size of the workforce, the seed producer’s membership in a cluster, and access to financing were the main determinants of the viability of soybean seed units in Benin.
