West African Medieval Arabic Inscriptions

West African Arabic inscriptions dating from the 11th to the 15th century ad are discussed. Their importance as historical sources is examined, and compared to that of other Arabic written sources, oral traditions, archaeological evidence, and Berber‑language inscriptions in Tifinagh characters.
