Wet Market Ethnography and Market Trader Research [within the CONTAIN Project - CONtact Tracing, Infection and Transmission: An INterdisciplinary approach]

This study investigates interpersonal contact patterns and infection risks in wet markets in Ghana and Thailand using a novel interdisciplinary approach. Combining ethnographic observation and performance-based role-play (Playback Theatre), the research captures real and simulated interactions among market traders to assess proximity, touch, and behavioural routines relevant to zoonotic disease transmission. The findings will inform agent-based models of contagion and support culturally grounded public health interventions.
