Who Decides What We Remember? examines the role of public art in shaping collective memory and urban identity in Lagos State. Through a critical analysis of selected public artworks, including Polly Alakija's Falomo Under Bridge Murals, Joel Oguntayo's Oba C. D. Akran Monument, and the MKO Abiola Bronze Statue, the paper explores how governments, institutions, and artists influence the stories that become permanently visible in public space. It argues that public art is not merely decorative but a powerful cultural and political tool that determines whose histories, values, and identities are remembered by future generations.
