Why the National Workplace Learning Accreditation Authority (NWLAA) is Important for TVET Colleges in South Africa

This thesis explores systemic challenges in South Africa’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector, particularly the lack of structured workplace learning opportunities. It proposes the establishment of a National Workplace Learning Accreditation Authority (NWLAA) to centralise and standardise workplace learning accreditation. Drawing on international models from the Netherlands, Germany, and Austria, the study argues that NWLAA would guarantee equitable placements, improve employability, and align TVET outcomes with national development priorities under the NDP 2030, UN SDGs, and AU Agenda 2063.
