Collection description The ZNA-EAC are the only entries in the Mprint corpus that do not have accompanying images. The ZNA-EAC series catalogs manuscripts belonging to the Zanzibar Institute for Records and Archives – ZIAR – (formerly the Zanzibar National Archives or ZNA.) The manuscripts housed in ZIAR were not available for digitization. The records included in the Mprint corpus are drawn from the work of Dr. Lorenzo Declich and published in The Arabic Manuscripts of the Zanzibar National Archives: A Checklist that appeared as Supplemento no. 2 Alla Revista Studi Orientale Nouvo Serie volume LXVIII (Pisa/Roma: Academia Editoriale, 2006). Dr. Declich's supplement includes early printed and lithographed books (designated with the series prefix ZA) and manuscripts (designated by the prefix EAC). Only the latter are included in the Mprint corpus. Most of these items originated from the Sultan's Palace and were deposited with the Archives following the 1964 revolution. These objects remain housed in ZIAR. MprinT is funded by the Research Council of Norway and supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) under Germany's Excellence Strategy - EXC 2176 'Understanding Written Artefacts: Material, Interaction and Transmission in Manuscript Cultures', project no. 390893796. The research was partially conducted within the scope of the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) at University of Hamburg. Most of the digitization occurred between October 2021 and May 2025.
