Zormelo Assaycut Formula: A Unified, Error-Proof Method for Calculating the Exact Volume of Concentrated Acid and Base Required to Prepare Standard Molar Solutions

The accurate preparation of standard molar solutions from commercially available concentrated acids and bases remains a routine yet error-prone task in analytical chemistry and quality control laboratories. Conventional molarity calculations frequently neglect critical commercial parameters — specific gravity (S.g) and percentage purity (PP) — resulting in systematic concentration errors that compromise titration and quality assessment. This work introduces the ZORMELO ASSAYCUT FORMULA, originally invented on 20th September 2016 at Tema Lube Oil Company Ltd., Ghana, during the author's National Service as QC Laboratory Technician. FORMULA:V₁ (mL) = [ C₂ × V₂ × Mm × 100 ] / [ S.g × PP ] Where:V₁ = Volume of concentrated stock solution required (mL)C₂ = Desired molarity (mol/L)V₂ = Desired final volume (L)Mm = Molar mass of solute (g/mol)S.g = Specific gravity of concentrated stockPP = Percentage purity (%) VALIDATION:Validated through continuous daily use since 2016 in lube oil (TAN, TBN), food, water, and pharmaceutical QC laboratories in Ghana. Results show 80% reduction in preparation time (from ~10 min to ~2 min), elimination of density/purity omission errors, and function as QC Laboratory Check-Key to detect reagent variation. Two worked examples for HCl (0.5M) and H₂SO₄ (0.25M) demonstrate applicability.
