AVAILABILITY OF ICT INFRASTRUCTURE AND QUALITY OF LIBRARY SERVICES IN MILITARY LIBRARIES IN ABUJA, NIGERIA

Despite widespread adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in libraries, its impact on user satisfaction in specialised knowledge environments remains underexplored. This study examines the availability of ICT infrastructure and its influence on library services and user satisfaction in military libraries in Abuja, Nigeria. Using a descriptive survey, 246 registered users across three military libraries were surveyed via a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed with descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. Findings reveal that ICT infrastructure, including computers, library management systems, and digital repositories, is largely available and significantly enhances service efficiency, accessibility, and user confidence. Core library services, such as reference assistance, information retrieval, and circulation, benefited from the deployment of ICT, and regression results indicate that ICT infrastructure significantly predicts both service accessibility and overall user satisfaction. Challenges such as connectivity issues, outdated equipment, and limited user training constrain optimal utilisation. The study underscores the critical role of ICT in enabling effective service delivery in specialised military libraries. It highlights the need for sustained investment, infrastructure maintenance, and capacity development to maximise user satisfaction.
