This presentation attempts to provide an overview of scientific journals in Africa, particularly those based on the Diamond Open Access model (no fees for readers or authors). Specific topics such as visibility, cognitive justice and evaluation are addressed. The presentation also addresses the dynamics involved in building a skills network, creating policies on open science, and the IRD symposium ‘Open Science in the South,’ which will soon be held for the fourth time.
